A rare, dated example of mid-century Navajo craftsmanship. This is an exceptional piece of traditional Navajo pottery, distinguished by its early and specific provenance. Dated with a presentation year of 1952, this round pot predates the widespread commercialization of Navajo pottery, representing the authentic, utilitarian style that was revived in the 1950s.
It features the characteristic golden-brown to deep-red hue achieved by coating the fired clay in hot piñon pitch—a technique used for centuries to waterproof vessels for carrying water or storing grain.
